
Overview
Funding for this position is provided by the Deutsche Forschungs Gemeinschaft (DFG) project “Using Artificial Intelligence to uncover the initial conditions of the Local Universe”. The project aims at reconstructing and simulating the local universe through the use of Machine Learning techniques. The position is embedded in the Cosmography and large-scale structure research group, headed by Dr Noam Libeskind.
Qualifications and position
Candidates with experience in computational methods, Machine Learning algorithms and an interest in the local universe are encouraged to apply. Previous experience in running or analyzing N-body or hydrodynamical cosmological simulations is a plus. Applicants need to have a PhD in astrophysics, physics, or a closely related field by the beginning of the appointment. Additional funds are available for computational equipment and travel. The position is anticipated to start in Fall of 2026, but is subject to individual arrangements.
Conditions
Salary and benefits are attractive and fixed by the German academic standard TV-L level E13. Pay grade is further determined by professional experience and expertise. We also provide social benefits for the public service (TV-L) incl. company pension VBL with pension for reduced earning capacity and surviving dependents as well as a subsidy for public transportation (“job ticket”). The appointment is for 2+1 years.
